Two views with a time difference of over 50 years. This building was once the Wyllie Village Institute, built in 1934.
The more recent photograph shows it in its new role as the 'Islwyn Inn' pub and restaurant.

Wyllie Colliery gave its name to the village which grew alongside. The colliery was named after Lt.Colonel Alexander Wyllie, a director of the Tredegar Iron and Coal Company.
The pit was first sunk in 1926 and at the peak of its output employed over 700 men.
Closure came in 1968 after a relatively short period of 40 years production.

Glanhowy Road, Wyllie - Probably mid 1930's - no TV aerials, satellite dishes or any sign of motor cars.
The only mode of transport seems to be the solitary bicycle propped against the kerb on the left.
