Whit Walks No.1 Whit Walks No.2 Whit Walks No.3

A set of photos from the mid 1950s.

The occasion is the " Whitsun walk outs " when the Chapel congregations paraded through the Town.
A new suit or outfit was mandatory for this event and many a "Provy" cheque was cashed in !

Picture 1 shows the crowds streaming down Castle Street to the Circle past the old Gas Board showrooms.

Picture 2 shows the Black Prince Inn with the stack of No. 9 pit just visible in the background.

In Picture 3 can be seen Claude Brookes' barber shop - the obligatory venue for town lads on a Saturday morning.

Park Place - Whitsun Walk

Another Whitsun procession from many years prior to the preceding photos.
