Old Valley view New Valley view

Two views looking north up the Valley from Markham.
Picture 1 shows the scene from 30 years ago when the Colliery dominated the Valley floor.
Picture 2 is taken from roughly the same viewpoint and shows today little evidence of what once existed there.

Markham Colliery was in production from before WW1 until the mid 1980s.
The village took its name from the Colliery which was named after Sir Arthur Markham, a director of the Tredegar Iron & Coal Company.

The houses of Hollybush Village can be seen in the distance.
