Hello everyone, I was so pleased to see some posts by my uncle Fred, I was surfing the net and came across some old photos and info about my Grandad Fred Probyn SNR and his sons who were also miners. I am looking at my roots, and wondering if anyone remembers my nan and Grandad at all. Uncle Fred, its good to see your posts, hope to get an email soon, blessings and love Heather. xxx

I lived in that beautiful valley from spring of 1945 until winter 1954. I lived in wattsville in a house that is now a care home, I believe that we were the last family to live in that house, I was nine then and would look down into that beautiful valley and thought I should never want to leave, butI did and it was many years later that I returned to look again upon the house and the beauty of the valley.it was in 1992 that I stood and remembered my childhood, and the valley that I had loved so much, so my I say thank you for giving me the chance to say how much I have loved the sirhowy valley. mary long

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site, but was recommended as I'm trying to find info about my grandfather and his family. He was William George Bracey, and had at least one brother who was known as Dick (don't laugh). The family lived in Tredegar towards the end of the 19th century, and then in about 1900 my grandfather came to SA. I think he came out to join the SA Constabulary towards the end of the 2nd Boer War, but have to check a file at the Archives in Pretoria. I've been told that his parents and brother - and maybe more brothers and sisters - continued to live at 1C (or B or A) Whitworth Terrace until 1928, when they sold up and moved to Blackwood in order for Uncle Dick to take up a position on Wyllie Colliery. Can ANYONE out there possibly throw some light on the family. There is also apparently a huge chunk of the 1881 Census missing, and I think their info is probably missing along with it. Thanks in advance Jane
